Editor's Preface includes biographic information on author
"An account of Dr. Stark's last illness and death, by Sir John Pringle, or by Dr. Saunders, most probably the former.'--p. [183]-190. The section includes "Here follows Mr. Hewson's account of the illness and inspection of the body ..." and "Mr. Hunter gave the physician the following account of the appearance some days afterwards, from his memory"
The author died, almost certainly, of scurvy as a result of his experiments on his own diet.--On the author and this work, see Drummon, J.C. "William Stark, M.D." Lancet, 1935 (ii), p. 459-462
